24 September 2026 - Universiti Malaya Open Science (UMOS) organised the Universiti Malaya Data Steward Skills Enhancement Workshop on 24 September 2026 at the Universiti Malaya Alumni Association (PAUM) Clubhouse, from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The workshop was organised under the Open Science Data Management Section, Research Development Department, Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation), to strengthen the capabilities of UM data stewards in managing the University’s research data.

The workshop featured two trainers from WorldFish: Saadiah Ghazali, Senior Knowledge and Data Management Specialist, and Nurshazleen Roslan, Data Management Officer. Drawing on their experience in research data management, institutional repositories and Open Science, the trainers shared insights into data curation, data dictionaries and impact reporting for shared datasets.

These topics supported participants’ understanding of responsible data management and the FAIR principles:Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. The programme aimed to equip UM data stewards with practical knowledge and greater confidence in fulfilling their responsibilities to safeguard and support the effective use of the University’s research data.

It also reinforced UMOS’s commitment to Open Science, which promotes transparency, collaboration and equitable access to scientific knowledge through practices such as open-access publishing, research data sharing, open educational resources and citizen science.
