Universiti Malaya Open Science (UMOS) successfully participated in the UM iFEST 2026, held from 8–11 June 2026 at the Dewan Tunku Canselor (DTC), Universiti Malaya. The four-day festival attracted more than 10,000 visitors and showcased over 2,800 undergraduate final-year projects from 17 faculties under the theme "Unleashing Ideas, Igniting Change."
Throughout the festival, the UMOS booth served as a platform to promote Open Science, Research Data Management (RDM), and Data Stewardship initiatives among students, researchers, academic staff, and industry visitors.
Visitors were introduced to the various services and resources offered by UMOS, including the UM Dataverse, Data Management Plan (DMP) support, and consultation services provided by the university's network of Data Stewards. The booth also highlighted the importance of responsible research data management and the benefits of open and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) research practices.
The event provided valuable opportunities for engagement with members of the research community. Several researchers expressed interest in adopting Open Science practices and registered for UMOS-related services and platforms to support their research activities.
In addition, UMOS Data Stewards actively promoted upcoming workshops, webinars, and training programmes designed to enhance researchers' knowledge and skills in research data management, data sharing, and Open Science implementation.
Participation in UM iFEST 2026 reflects UMOS's ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of openness, collaboration, and responsible research practices across Universiti Malaya. Through outreach initiatives such as this, UMOS continues to support the university's vision of advancing impactful and accessible research for the benefit of society.
